Note: Dorothy was the second of 11 children in her family and became a teacher in one-room schools in the Andale (Victory District) and Garden Plain area. After marriage she became a homemaker and like most women of the time, put all her energy into her family as well as helping with the farm. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, kept a vegetable garden, sold eggs and butter to the local grocer, and was active in Altar and Rosary. She taught her children to read and write before they ever attended school, and taught piano to any son or daughter willing to practice. When the children were older she did substitute teaching at Sacred Heart parochial school. After Ben's death she continued to be active in her church, bridge group, and exercise activities. She suffered from Alzheimer's disease for almost 10 years before her death in 2003. The last 5 years of her life she lived in assisted living and then a nursing home in the Denver area. Her children miss her singing as she worked, her gentleness and unfailing love.
