He was Captured on Nov 11th or 17th, Camp Chase Ohio records show him a member of Company A 36th Va. Inf.. Company A was know as the Buffalo Guards.   U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865(M382 roll 36) 36th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry Company C, enlisted as Corporal, Rank Out Private,
Note on 43033 --- sent to Camp Shaw first? Camp Shaw in West Virginia near Lewisburg/Caldwell
Federal Troops occupied Lewisburg on November 7, 1863, but being burdened with prisoners and captured livestock, General Averell elected to return to his headquarters in Beverly, West Virginia, waiting until early December to lead a third and ultimately successful attack on the vital railroad. Operations in the Shenandoah Valley in the spring of 1864 drew remaining confederate troops out of west Virginia, thus leaving the new state securely under the control of the federal government for the remainder of the war.

  SKIRMISH IN WEST VIRGINIA.
 CLARKSBURG, Nov. 8, 1863.
 To Governor Boreman:
General Averill attacked Jackson's forces at Mill Point, Pocahontas County, on the 5th inst., and drove him from his position with trifling loss. Jackson fell back to the summit of Droop Mountain, when he was reinforced by General Echols with Patten's brigade and one regiment from Jenkins's command. The position is naturally a strong one, and was strengthened by breast-works commanding the road. General Averill turned the enemy's left with his infantry, and attacked him in front with cavalry dismounted.
The victory was decisive, and the enemy's retreat became a total rout, his forces throwing away their arms and scattering in every direction.
The cavalry pursued till dark, capturing many prisoners and a large quantity of arms, ammunition, etc.
The enemy's wounded have all fallen into our hands. Our loss in killed and wounded is about one hundred.
 B. F. KELLEY, Brigadier-General.
