Note: Tribute...Read at her graveside service by Kerry Powers: Audrey Nadine Bacon (Powers) was born on September 13, 1916 in Denver, Colorado. At the tender age of three her mother died and her father was forced to put her in Loretto Heights, a private Catholic school in Englewood, Colorado thus laying the foundation for her profound love of God and strong Catholic faith. She devoted her life to her family yet she managed to set aside some time for fun. Life to her meant living every minute to the fullest, facing things head on with strength and courage, turning the other cheek and never holding a grudge, never being pessimistic and always making the best of a bad situation. Her love of nature and the majestic Rocky Mountains with its aspens, rivers and fields of blooms was boundless. She touched everyone’s lives in a very special way and people were amazed at her positive, cheerful personality, no matter the situation. Her creativity and artistry could be seen in all aspects of her life and home. She lit up the room with her smile and sense of humor and her childlike personality was endearing to all. She was eternally selfless, a true class act, the epitome of grace and kindness, and a gentle soul to be adored. Even at the end of a long, arduous journey with dementia she was never cantankerous. Her favorite phrase was “hello my little dolly” and she would look at you with those beautiful blue eyes and smile and your heart would simply melt. We will never forget her, we could never love her more than we do, and we can’t thank God enough for letting her be in our lives for such a long time. She has made us all better for having known her and we should all aspire to be just a fraction as incredible as she was. She’s wearing angel wings now, is at peace and watching over all of us. A poem Audrey wrote during one of the yearly fall trips she looked forward to and took with Pinky to the Rocky Mountains reads; “My Lord, I gazed on your world today Resplendently gorgeous in every way. I saw your mountains, rugged rocky peaks White-striped, reflecting in ice glazed creeks. Delicate aspens, stripped, stark, grey. Pines, stately, dark green, white with snow spray. Shimmering golds and bronze of trees, heavy with leaf, A deep blue sky above, guardian of all beneath. A palette of color covers the ground. Garnet bushes, green pasture all surround. Groves of quaking aspen or trees, bared. October’s glorious beauty, I have gratefully shared."
