a. Note:   Obituary from Platte County Record Times dated 5/19/1999 Services for George H. Rhoades, 92, were held Monday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Wheatland, with Pastor Charles G. Clough officiating. Interment was in the Iowa Flats Cemetery at Chugwater, with graveside rites by the Wheatland Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. and A.M.
  Mr. Rhoades died Thursday, May 13, at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.
  He was born November 11, 1906, in Stuart, Neb., the son of John M. and Minnie (Schilling) Rhoades. George came with his parents who homesteaded in the Slater area in 1910. He married Joyce Young on January 27, 1930, in Fort Collins. He worked for the Chugwater Co-Op until 1936 when they moved to cheyenne and worked for Dinneen Motor Company.
  During World War II, George was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad and retired as an engineer in 1950. At this time, they moved to Wheatland where he ranched on Sybille road and later worked for the Wyoming State Highway Department, retiring in 1971. After that he was emplyed by Greg Horton at the Horton Oil Company until retiring again in 1981. George was a member of the Wheatland Masonic Lodge #15 A.F. and A.M., the IOOF Lodge and vaious business and agricultural organizations. He was a long time member and avid supporter of the United Church of Christ. Besides his love of family, George had an obsession with automobiles and small children. He had a special attraction to anything with engines such as motorcycles, four-wheelers and tractors. If you couldn't ride it or drive it, it probably wasn't very interesting. George really enjoyed interacting with people and will be remembered for his integrity and honesty.
  George is survived by one brother, Clint Rhoades of Cheyenne; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Jack Landis of Denver; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Dana Rhoades of Wheatland; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numberous nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Joyce Helene Young Rhoades on August 11, 1984 and Goldie Wright Rhoades on April 17, 1998; a sister Myrtle; and one sister, Faye Miller Beard.
  Serving as pallbearers were Mike Rhoades, Mark Adolph, John Godwin, Don Anderson, Kevin Ladis and Jeff Jeffers. Honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.
