Note: ar in Hardin. The family then moved to a ranch near Roy, Fergus County, Montana where she attended her Sophomore year. Her parents were visiting Norway, when Jeanne decided to go with her father, Fred Powers, to Circle City, Alaska. In a letter dated 9/17/1946, John McCarthy writes that they had received a telegram from Fred that they would leave for home (Circle City, Alaska) as soon as Jeanne got to Sheridan, Wyo. The trip to Alaska was by a car and trailer. She returned to Roy, Montana where she attended her senior year and graduated from there in 1948. Jeanne took vocal lessons in 1946 and it is known she sang at weddings and also played piano. Jeanne reportedly went to college at Eastern Montana College (EMC) in Billings (a family member said she started Western Montana College in Dillon) and went to Teachers College in Miles City, Montana where she roomed with Alice Kasten, Frank's sister. She began her teaching career at Sioux Falls.She returned to Miles City and began teaching in a country school and also taught in Terry, Montana. Jeanne was also her daughter Roxy's first grade teacher. Jeanne was very talented. She could draw and painted with oils. She was an excellent seamstress, making 90% of her children's clothes, including Frank's western shirts with snaps. She made Roxy's formal dress for a high school dance and made Yvonne's wedding dress. Jeanne was also a very good cook. Jeanne lost her battle with breast cancer on July 29, 1982.
