Brown family in Lyman Co, SD. He died on 22 Dec 1900 in Moulton, Appanoose county, IA. Burial on 23 Dec 1900 in Oakland cemetery in Centerville IA.
In searching the LDS film/fiche records, note that Film # 0545132, V.A.B. that they have the marriage records, 1810--1967 from Madison County Ohio, probate court.
I have a copy of Thomas and Mary A.M. Barron's marriage certificate from Madison County Ohio. They were married December 24, 1848. The handwritten text reads as follows, "The State of Ohio, Madison County ss. I certify that I have this day solemized the marriage of Thomas Powers with Mary A. M. Barron. Witness my hand this 24th day of December A. D. 1848". This record was in Book A, page 406, in the Probate Office of Madison County, London, Ohio.
I also have a copy of Thomas' obituary from the Centerville newspaper. The obituary notes that Frank and Will Powers, from SD attended the funeral. Frank, was Robert Frank, Ron's grandfather. Will was Hiram William Powers who homesteaded west of the Missouri River in South Dakota.
Their first child, Albert Downing Powers was born in 1849 in Madison County Ohio. They then moved to Appanoose County Iowa in 1850. Thomas died on December 22, 1900 and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville on December 23. His wife, Mary, died in 1882 and is also buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, IA.
The 1900 Federal Census for Lyman County, SD (taken in June of 1900) indicates that Thomas was living with his daughter, Evaline Loretta Powers Brown, and her husband, John A. Brown, three of their children and a brother of John's. Sometime between June of 1900 and December of that year, Thomas went back to Appanoose County Iowa where he died December 22, 1900.
The 1850 Census of Center Twsp, Appanoose County, IA, Residence # 38, indicates the following members of the household:
Thomas, b. 1825; harness maker Mary A., b. VT 19 years old Albert b. OH 1 year old Augusta A. Barron, b. OH 7 yrs Zachari Barron, b. OH 3 yrs Salima Powers, b. OH 15 yrs.
The Barron children are likely Mary Barron Powers sister and brother that had been born to her father Alvin Barron and his wife. Alvin died in 1849. Salima is Thomas' youngest sister who came with Thomas and Mary when they left Ohio. Salima's mother died in 1836 when Salima was about 18 months old.
Thomas and Mary, three of their children (Albert, Evaline, and "Bub" -- who was Henry Perry Powers and was born within weeks of the census) and two children with the last name of Barron (Mary's maiden name) living in Center Township of Appanoose county. In the 1885 Iowa Census of the 3rd Ward of Centerville, Appanoose county, Thomas is residing with his two youngest sons, Robert Frank and George Nathan Powers. We do not not find him in the 1895 Iowa Census. In 1895, after his wife's death, he may have been living with any one of several sons, either in Appanoose county, or in South Dakota where his daughter and at least one married son were living after 1890. We do know that he was living with his daughter's family in 1900 at the time of the U.S. Census.
