a. Note:   as born in Appanoose County in 1854 and married Sadie Davenport in 1878. In 1920 he was living in Cherry County, Nebraska (Goose Creek Township) and was married to a woman whose first name appears to be Fredonia. Ron's mother noted that she was called "Aunt Fred". The assumption, yet to be verified, is that his first wife died (they had been married in 1878). In the
 1920 Census there was no indication of any children still at home.
  Have also found a land Patent where Walter T. Powers homesteaded 480.26 acres in Cherry County, Nebraska on March 6, 1916. Woodrow Wilson was President at the time. The issuing land office was at Valentine, NE. A copy of the land patent (Acc./Ser. No. 517438) is included in background materials used in our research.
  Verifed Walter's date of death (11/9/1934) and place of burial (Oacoma Cemetery, Oacoma SD) Records in Lyman county courthouse also show a burial permit for his wife, Fredonia, in the same location. A visit to the cemetery was unsuccessful in locating gravestones for either one of them.
