A Resident of Whitehall for 34 years and One of its Prominent and Respected Residents. Philip Jacob Rehm, for 34 years a well known and respected Whitehall resident, died at his home on Saunders street Monday evening at 8:30 o'clock. Mr Rehm had not been in good health for six years. He was the victim of a paralytic shock Sept 5 and had been confined to his bed since then. Mr Rehm was born in Pfullingen, Wrttemberg, Germany, July 6, 1862. He and Mrs. Rehm were married July 2, 1886 and they came to Whitehall in 1890. Mr Rehm conducted a tailoring shop in Whitehall for 18 years and during several Republican state administrations he was employed as lock tender in Whitehall. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a charter member of both local lodges of the Knights of Pythias and the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr Rehm was strictly honest and honorable in all his business and other relations and he was a man who stood high in public esteem. He was a good citizen, husband and father, and he possessed the friendship of all who knew him. Rev Arthur L. Berger of the Presbyterian church conducted the funeral service at the late home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment was in Boardman cemetery. The floral offerings were numerous. The Knights of Phythas conducted a service at the grave. The bearers were George Hyatt, Clarence Wicks, Dr Bouchard, Austin Leddick, - - - - and Charles Jemery. He leaves a wife and 10 children. His death is the first one to come to the family. Not one of the children born to Mr and Mrs. Rehm have died. It is surely an unusual record. (Note from MH. This is not true. They lost a baby. Theodore Robert in 1892). The sons and daughters are Mrs. L.W. Benjamin, Theodore D,. Otto, Elsie A., Catherine E. , Harold, R. and Christina M. all of Whitehall; Martha H., Philadelphia, Erwin R, who is in the U.S. Navy and en route to Japan; Walter O., of Bolton Landing, NY.
