Notes
a. Note:   "The reason for the separation can only be guessed at, but the family has information indicating that AC Kellogg was a womanizer, and perhaps also had a fondness for drink. Certainly Harriet was an active member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She ran a boarding house in Niagara Falls, NY to help out her daughter, Mary Kellogg Phillips when Jean Winifred Phillips was born. While there, she suffered a stroke, and was disabled thereafter. From then on, she made her home with Mary and her family, and died on her 80th birthday. She was a woman of determination, since few couples separated in her time, and few women managed to support themselves. Marion Phillips Armstrong remembers her as "matriarch," who ruled her family with a firm hand."
