A family tree online had Alvira' parents as Father: Gideon Drake b: ABT 1784 in Hopewell, Hunterdon County, NJ, Mother: Mable Parke b: ABT 1787, but no sources given. Mable's parents also given: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bethsfamily&id=I03426
I also had Alvira possibly born Ontario County per the Stockwell Family book. So I looked up Drakes in Ontario County in the NY Censuses:
1800: none, and no Gideon Drake anywhere in NY (head of household).
1810 (only looking for Drakes with young daughters:

Looking for Gideon Drake in NY Census:
1820: found him in Lyons, Ontario, p.117
1830: found him in Almond, Allegany, p.11
1840 & 1850: not found
I also looked for Drakes in Ontario Co 1790 and found none. The 1790 census index is by county.
So it is very promising that Gideon, the name suggested by that internet tree, had a young daughter at the right time in the county suggested by the Stockwell Family book, and that he subsequently moved to the county his possible daughter moved to, and that said daughter named a son "Gideon Drake Stockwell." I can now look for more on Gideon in Lyons and Almond.
I could find no Gideon Drake buried in Almond or Birdsall (where David and Alvira lived) but the Birdsall Hiltonville cemetery (code #9-3; (lot 7), Hiltonville), is described as overgrown and is not transcribed.

Gazeteer of the State of NY 1860, p.201 re Cato early settlers: "The first child born was Alvira Stockwell, 5/4/1805; the first marriage that of Andrew Stockwell and Sybil Root 6/4/1804." Could this be Alvira Drake Stockwell?
