Note: Memorium: "It is with regret we note the death of Mrs. Wickham, wife of M.L. Wickham, of Hector, which occurred on Monday, June 3d, 1895. Mrs. Wickham had been a resident of Hector for thirty years and had endeared herself to every one with whom she came in contact. The community is deeply sensible of the great loss it has sustained and the sorrow which Mrs. Wickham's death has brought not only upon the family, but to her large circle of friends. She was always found to be cheerfully engaged in the important duties of home life, unassuming and gentle, she commanded the love and esteem of all who knew her. In her home everyone received a welcome and no one lacked for aid and sympathy. It is but few that endear themselves to so many, and her memory will be kept green and fresh in the hearts of all. No words of encomium can do justice to the kind, gentle, loving one whom Death, the destroyer, has taken from us, and we can only bow our heads and weep with those who weep and try so to live that when our turn comes to be gathered home we shall merit the same joy and eternal happiness and peace that we know she has inherited. "The funeral services... "Mrs. Wickham was converted under the ministrations of Rev. C. Dellenbeck, and in her seventeenth year united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Harrison Valley, PA. On January 17, 1866, she was married to M. L. Wickham of Hector. Her maiden name was Pruda Erway, being the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Erway of Harrison Valley. "Mrs. Wickham leaves a sorrowing husband, eight children and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. She died at the early age of forty-nine, almost in the prime of her useful life." The remaining children who, with the husband, mourn their loss are Mary E., wife of Wilbur LaFever, of Michigan; Casside D., wife of Frank Lowe, of Hector; Carrie D., Harry E., Hattie A., Edith M., Benjamin A., and Randolph S. Six brothers likewise survive and acted as pall-bearers: McKinney and Ambrose D., of Harrison Valley, PA, Marcella and Benjamin, of Hector; Ira D., of Groton, NY, and Chas. G. Erway, of Cortland, NY. "Mrs. Wickham lived a quiet home-life faithful in all her duties. Kindly and helpful to those in affliction; her merits were recognized and her kindness reciprocated by her many friends and neighbors. She died in the faith. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints." Obit: "Death of Mrs. M.L. Wickham. "With sadness we announce the death of Mrs. M. L. Wickham, on June 3d, at Hector, NY, aged 49 years. On more than one occasion, the writer of this paragraph enjoyed the friendly and fraternal hospitality of the deceased and her generous hearted husband, Mr. M. L. Wickham, when in attendance upon the Wickham reunions near their home, on the eastern bank of Seneca Lake, near Watkins. "During our brief visits to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wickham, friends and kinsfolk, we learned to respect and esteem them and their large family very highly, for the generous and brotherly kindness extended to us. "The deceased leaves a sadly bereaved husband, eight children, and a large circle of relatives and friends, to mourn her departure to the better land."
