a. Note:   Began piano studies at the age of six and when 12 years old made a concert tour with her older sister, Christine, through schools and colleges in Pennsylvania. She gave a solo piano recital her senior year in high school.
  About this time she began art studies with the late Nina Mason Booth. She entered University of Michigan at Ann Arbor as a piano major but after two years transferred to the College of Architecture, graduating with a Bach. of Design degree.
  She spent a year teaching at Children's House in Detroit, a school sponsored by Mrs. Edsel Ford for talented children from 3-16 years.
  She married John Mumford, whom she had met at Michigan, and they lived in Akron, Ohio, until he entered service in WWII. During his absence, she returned to Batavia and for a time taught art in the five elementary schools.
  Virginia is a charted member and very active in the Batavia Society of Artists as well as the Genesee Creative Arts Guild and is affiliated with art groups in other states. She has had paintings hung in galleries of several states.
