Note: Article: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brokaw arrived home from a short wedding trip in the western part of the state, the fore part of the week. Last evening a dozen of Mr. Brokaw's friends called at the newly wedded couple's home at No. 209 West Centre street and presented them with a handsome mantel clock. The presentation was a happy event all around and proved a great surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Brokaw. The donors were Messrs. John B. Weaver, B. S. Gordon, H. O. Travis, Charles Garlock, M. E. Taber, Bert Foland, L. C. Tourtellot, F. S. Baker, Bert Yarnald, Grove Thompson, Henry Wagoner, E. J. Unbehend, F. J. Skelton and John Roberst. Article: Edward Brokaw, of this place, tower inspector between Oneida and Syracuse, met with a serious accident at Kirkville Tuesday while working in the tower there. In lifting an electric battery cell it broke and a deep gash about three inches long was cut in the first finger of his right hand. The fluid from the cell, containing blue vitriol, copper, etc., was spilled in the wound. Dr. Taylor dressed it. Amputation will probably not be necessary unless blood poisoning sets in. Obituary: Ed. Brokaw of Ovid went to the polls and voted Tuesday and after returning home complained of feeling ill and sent for a doctor. He suffered a stroke and became unconscious. Death resulted Wednesday morning. Mr. Brokaw was about 60 years of age and leaves a wife. He was the youngest son of the late Newton Brokaw. Funeral will be held at the home, one mile east and one mile south of this village, at 2 p.m. Saturday.
