The names and ages of the children are given, Jonathan Jr. 18, Israel 13, Samuel 11, David 9, Abigail 5 (Samuel's age is wrong should be 16). On page. 79 they are listed again, and Israel is called Jacob. Vol. 2-79-80. Distribution was made to these same children, and the widow. The son Jonathan, chose his mother as guardian and she was appointed for the four younger ones. Dorcas married second on 21 Jun 1726 Jacob Johnson (Branford Church, Wallingford Vital gives 20th). He was born in New Haven, CT on 25 Sep 1674 and died at Wallingford, CT on 26 Jul 1749. She died on 5 May 1760, and is buried at North Branford, CT. Then on 21 Oct 1726 Jonathan Linsley, minor son of Jonathan of Branford dec'd, chose Benjamin Barnes of Branford for guardian (Ben. Barnes was his uncle). Samuel and Daniel Linsley chose their "father-in-law Jacob Johnson for guardian", 13 Aug 1730. Abigail daughter of Jonathan Linsley chose her father-in-law Jacob Johnson of Wallingford for her guardian 2 Oct 1732. Note - It appears that children reaching 14 years of age were permitted to chose their own guardian and that father-in-law was used as we use stepfather today. Also by a rather free use of biblical names son Israel was on occasions called Jacob. The estate of Dorcas Johnson was admitted to probate in 1760, administration to her eldest son Jonathan Linsley, and distribution to her children Jonathan, Israel, Daniel, Samuel, Abigail Rose, alias Linsley.
