Note: In May 1771, "This Assembly do establish Dan Linsley to be Ensign of the 14th Company or Trainband in the second regiment of this colony". (Colonial Records of Conn. Vol. XIII pg. 430.) He died 10 Aug 1773, only 39 years old. He had a fever and the people taking care of him would not let him have any water. He said to his little son, "James, go and get me a glass of water". The child obeyed, but when he had almost reached the sufferer, someone took the glass away from him. It almost broke the child heart and he never got over it, and always believed his father would of lived if he could of had that water. Dan had planned to send James to college when he was old enough. Dan Linsley married Anna Lucretia Tyler on 13 Nov 1758 at Northford. She was born 18 Jul 1737 the daughter of Peter and Hannah (Palmer) Tyler 3rd. Both descended from the original founders of Branford. Her mother, Hannah Palmer from William Palmer, and her father from the Peter Tyler 1st, who married Deborah's Swayne. Peter's father was Roger Tyler from Lynn, Massachusetts. Deborah's father was Daniel, son of William Swayne; her mother was Dorcas Rose, daughter of Robert Rose. Mr. William Swayne was the leader of the group that came down from Wethersfield to settle Branford. He was the first magistrate and a very important man in the early town. Robert Rose was one of those who drew land in the first allotment with our John, Sr. and Mr. Swayne. Peter Tyler was one of the organizers of the new Plantation Church 20 Jan 1667 and a deacon there. Administration on Estate of Dan Linsley was granted 2 Nov 1773 to widow, Anna. Distribution made to widow; eldest son, James, son, Dan, daughters Hannah, Anne and Chloe. (Guilford Probate) After Dan's early death, Anna married second Capt. Stephen Cook of Wallingford, 20 Nov 1777 at Northford, and moved to Wallingford where she died 23 Sep 1817, at the age of 80. She is buried at North Branford. Anna was Capt. Cook's 3rd wife.
