Papik died at his late residence on South Main Street Wednesday Morning, July 9 following a futile battle which he has waged for the past few months. He has been in ill health for the past four or five months, when he was stricken with paralysis. Many friends called daily to encourage and sustain him and he enjoyed the visits of the old associates and friends. Mr. Papik was one of the early settlers of this country, a pioneer, having come to Saline County when a young man, more than 55 years ago. He was a lover of flowers and had one of the most beautiful flower gardens and yards in this part of the country. Frank J. Papik was born December 19, 1854 at Mseno, Okres Nainik Province of Prague, Bohemia, and died at Crete, Saline County, Nebraska on the 9th day of July 1924 at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 20 days. He came to this country with his parents, Frank and Katherine Papik in the month of April 1869. On October 2, 1878, he was united in marriage with Barbora Nedla to which union were born ten children, three of whom predeceased him. Funeral services will be held at the Sokol Hall at Crete on the 11th day of July at 1:30 p.m. Frank J. Sadilek, an old friend of the family, will deliver the funeral address. It being the desire of the deceased to be cremated, his body will be shipped to Omaha to the crematory. Those left to mourn his untimely death are his widow, Barbora Papik and the following children: Mary Musil, Emma Zajicek, Anna Matejka, Adela Nohavec, Charles Papik, Joseph Papik, and Ladimore Papik. Besides his widow and the children, he leaves one brother, John Papik of Crete, and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Andelt of Crete and Mrs. James Schmidt of Milligan, together with nineteen grandchildren and a large number of friends and neighbors. Frank J. Papik (father Frank), born 12-19-1854 in Czechoslovakia, died 7-9-24 in Crete. He was cremated. Barbara Papik was born 6-8-1860, died 12-16-27 (father John Nedela) buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, now Blue Valley. On the same lot are Eddie Papik, Adolph & Edward Papik (buried together, so they must be twins), Frank & Barbara Papik, John and Barbara Nedela, Frank Sr., and Marie Papik, Vaclav and Ana Renner, Veronica Pomajzl, born Bohemia, Matej Pomajzl, Gusty Pomajzl, Lily (Venc) Pomajzl, and Robert Pomajzl.
