Note: N11487 While most sources state that she is Martha Virginia Christy, daughter of William Christy and Martha Thompson Taylor, more research is needed, as the Census enumerations do no support this. First, her date of birth ranges from 1815 to 1829 in the 1850 to 1880 Census enumerations. In 1880, she states her parents were both born in Virginia; William Christy was supposedly born in Pennsylvania and Martha in Kentucky. The 1850 Census shows her name as Virgina A. Smith, though the 1870 Census does show Virginia M. Smith. Finally, even 1815 for her birthdate makes her mother almost 50 years old when she was born.
