Note: In the 1930 US Federal Census, State of Illinois, Paul Branson was listed as living at 702 Maple St., in the City of Effingham, Douglas Township of Effingham County, Illinois. Paul was listed as the son of Clarence Branson. He listed his age at his last birthday as 5 [putting his birth year 1924 or 1925]. He was single at the time. He had not attended school nor college since September, 1929. He listed his birthplace as Illinois, his father's birthplace as Illinois, and his mother's birthplace as Illinois. He listed his occupation as none. Also listed as living in the same household were 1) Clarence Branson, head of household, 2) Fannie Branson, his wife, and 3) Paul Branson, his son. Paul was married in China during his US Navy duty about 1946 following a night of drinking during shore leave. The marriage was annulled with the help of the US Navy.
Paul and his family moved to Decatur, Illinois to work for the Wabash Railroad, in 1953. He initially rented a small apartment behind the landlord's house at 307 1/2 S. Calhoun Street. The landlord was Bernard E. Flinn and his wife Lois P. Flinn, living at 307 S. Calhoun Street. Mr. Flinn died before 1960. Paul lived in this apartment, a small stand alone building, by himself for few months until the family moved to Decatur.
Paul next rented a converted two car garage at 1135 East Johns Avenue from the Flinns, moving in 1953. The property was set back to the rear of the property. A home was never built on the front of the property until after Paul and the family moved out in 1963.

Paul's railroad retirement was handled by the Railroad Retirement Board, 132 S. Water Street, Decatur, Illinois 62523, phone 217-423-9747. Because of the circumstances for being fired, his retirement was withheld. He made several unsuccessful appeals.

West Lebanon- Paul Edward Branson age 87 of West Lebanon, In died at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Waters of Covington.
Paul was born on January 6, 1925 in Effingham, IL. He was the son of Clarence and Fannie Myers Branson. Paul served in the United States Navy during WWII and was enlisted from 1944-1952. He married Peggy Ann Sargent on May 28, 1976. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2008.
Paul worked for the railroad, retiring as a supervisor. In 1981 he was employed by the Town of West Lebanon and worked until the age of 82. Paul was a member of American Legion Post #259 Williamsport for over 26 years, VFW Post #3318 Attica, and Moose Lodge #1482 Attica. He enjoyed riding horses, going to state parks and outdoor markets. Paul loved animals, especially cats.
Surviving are, a son, Roger Branson (wife: Andi) of Florida; daughter, Patty White of Missouri; 3 step-sons, Robert M. Bush (wife: Kim) of West Lebanon, IN, Jack Bush (wife: Cheryl) of Attica, IN, and Scott Moody of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Artie Branson of Sabula, IA; sister, Shirley Bresette (Fred) of Sabula, IA; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until the memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor James Elrod officiating. Inurnment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors.
