Notes
a. Note:   Named Lazarus Allard in the record of baptism. The name Azarie was added in the margin after-the-fact. He was always known within the family as Azarie. It's most likely that the name Lazarus was an error by the presiding priest.
He spent his life in the lumber trade, first in Pontiac County, QC and later in Northern Ontario around Chapleau and Cochrane. In 1916, he tried his hand at farming in Pembroke, but was not cut out for that, so he returned to Chapleau by 1919 and opened up a sawmill at Mobert, a whistle stop on the CPR line about half-way between White River and Marathon, Ontario.
People remember Azarie with some fondness. He was a very loving and thoughtful man. He is known to have always smoked a pipe and chewed tobacco. He also walked with a cane, even when he was younger, a matter of style more than need, initially. He was very distinguished and a very natty dresser.
b. Note:   MI2810
Note:   (Medical):Died in McKellar Hospital after breaking hip at Grandview Lodge where he had lived for over 20 years. Otherwise, in fairly good health. Smoked a pipe for most of his life and also chewed tobacco, but no apparent health implications. Hearing was noticeably impaired for the last 15 years of his life.

Note:   Although they married in Sturgeon Falls, Azarie and Annie met on Allumette Island, where they were neighbours many years earlier. He often recounted stories of "bouncing her on his knee" when he was a young lad (she would have been a baby at the time). They married after a whirlwind three-week romance in Sturgeon Falls where Annie was working. Most of the children were born in Chapleau and considered that their home through much of their youth. The older girls went to high school in North Bay and were anxious to leave Chapleau due to a lack of opportunities. The family moved to Fort William about 1930 and turned their sawmill operations over to a partner. They lost the mill shortly after in the Depression and remained in Thunder Bay area for the rest of their lives, as did many of their children and grandchildren.
