Note: October 27, 1869 - May 23, 1928 Birthdate is October 1868 in the 1900 Dewey County Census. A Lyda Bible sheet has deathdate May 25, 1928. Robert Elwyn Fariss typed notes have deathdate of May 25, 1928. Eck's little brother Oscar Peery Fariss died of typhus fever in 1891at age 17. Then, 24 days later, Dora gave birth to their first child. This baby was named Peery Jones Fariss, probably after the 17-year-olduncle. Verna is the only source who says that Eck made the trip to TrailFlats, Oklahoma with the original big family group in 1893. Since hisname has not been mentioned in any of those reports, it must be that hemoved from Burnet to Oklahoma in about 1895 instead, because of this:his first three children Peery Jones 1891, Jennie 1893, and Mackie 1895were born in Burnet. Fannie 1898 and Alice 1900 were born in TrailFlat. Then the last three children were born in West Texas. WPSY says11-26-1993 that "he followed them to Oklahoma." Gus Fariss told his son Bob Fariss that brothers Tom and Eck had amisunderstanding over some cattle, and as a result, Eck moved toOklahoma. Verna says that he, like the others of the extended family group, homesteaded and proved up his land. Then he suffered a fall from ahorse, broke some ribs, and one of the ribs punctured a lung. He hadtrouble with that lung ever after. He had to sell his Oklahoma land toone of the other family members, for $75, and come south. Oil was laterdiscovered on the land that he sold. He was still in Dewey County inthe 1900 Federal Census, with Dora and five children. Three of his daughters (including Alice) had dark hair and eyes; threehad blonde hair and blue eyes. The girls sang in church, and wereinvited to sing in other churches. Hollie had very fair skin andplatinum blonde hair. He and his family spent time in Arkansas, San Angelo, and Sonora, before moving to south Oklahoma. They apparently followed the cottoncrop. WPSY says 11-26-1993 that Fannie Fariss told her that Eck was a haulerfor various ranches when the children were young. He would take hiswhole family with him to large ranches. The name of one rancher wasDavis; this is how Hollie Davis Fariss got her middle name. When Eck and his family moved to south Oklahoma, a nearby landownerwas Stearns. Hollie married James Henry Stearns in 1920. Eck is buried at Wilson, Oklahoma, which is just west of Ardmore.
