a. Note:   He lived in Elgin.
 He and Annie met through high school sports teams playing againstother towns. At one time, she was going with an Elgin boy, and he wasgoing with a Giddings girl.
 Annie went to Elgin in 1921 to teach school. She had his stinkinglittle spoiled brother in one of her classes.
 He was Assistant Postmaster.
 He had typhus fever in January 1942. Sulfanilimide drug had just beeninvented. Sulfa was used on him for some reason. The pharmacist warnedher that the doctor was "using too much of it."
 Then he got a little scratch on his hand. It got worse. His bloodcount went bad. It was granular cytosis, an infection in the bloodstream. He had transfusions. He died before he reached 41. Annie wasstill 39; Edgar 18 and a senior in High School; James was 16.
 His funeral service was conducted by Dr. Sam L. Joekel, President ofPresbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin and brother of HermanJoekel, who in 1934 had conducted the services for Ira Jones Fariss.
  Annie managed the Picture Show in Elgin for a while. Minnie offeredher a home in Houston.
