Notes
a. Note:   1878 - 1962
Her daughter Helen Bess firmly states that her mother had no middlename. A middle name of "Alice," the daughter says, has beenproliferated by a mistake and has spread too far.
Aunt Bert's Riggs family data was submitted to Salt Lake CityAncestral File by Susan Heston Taylor, 6470 Opal St., Alta Loma, Calif.91701. Helen Bess knows Susan. Both Susan and "A History of LeeCounty," 1974, report Alice as her middle name, by mistake.
Helen Bess Fariss Foster, and Salt Lake City, say that they weremarried November 15. Another source had said November 16.
Bert went away to school at Cornell Institute in San Marcos.
She was a Charter Member of Giddings Chapter No. 350, Order of theEastern Star.
William Ira Fariss, the oldest son of Ira and Annie, was called bothWillie and Bill in Giddings. He at one time courted either Emma Riggsor Pearl Riggs, a younger sister of his Uncle Fate's wife. Berta hadhoped that it would be a match, and that there would be anotherFariss-Riggs marriage, but it never worked out. This family called him"Bill Fariss."
He entertained 3-year-old Helen Bess Fariss, and she remembers himfondly. The Fate Fariss home had a huge long hallway down the middle.Helen would stand on a broom, and hold onto the handle. Bill Farisswould pull her along in the hallway, as if she were riding on a sled.
Bert and Fate are buried in the Giddings City Cemetery.
Seven are buried on the same Giddings lot:
 William Holmes Fariss
 Amelia Scott Jones Fariss
 William T. Wilson
Lyda Fariss Wilson Bert and Fate are on a differentlot.
 Milton S. Merchant
 Mary Adelia Fariss Merchant
Infant son of Sam and Ruby Fariss
The only two burials on the adjacent 8-place plot are:
 Andrew Mack Fariss
 Clara Koch Fariss
The body of the stillborn son of Sam and Ruby Fariss was sent toGiddings, with the intent that the infant be buried on the cemetery lotowned by his grandparents, Fate and Bert Fariss. But by a mistake ofpersons in Giddings, perhaps the preacher or the funeral home, the babywas mistakenly buried on the William Holmes Fariss lot.
