Notes
a. Note:   "The beautiful auburn-haired Laura Ann."
1864 - 1955 Daughter of Hall Medlin and Catherine Bradford, wife of Theodore Holmes Fariss, mother of Medlin Holmes Fariss Sr., IraMilton Fariss Sr., Cata Amelia Fariss, Elmer Allen Jack Fariss.
Her death date is November 11 in a small "hand" Bible.
Probably the reason that she was born in California is that her fatherHall Medlin was a WagontrainMaster on several wagon trains on theCalifornia Trail.
Laura Ann's wedding picture No. 6 is labeled "J.R.Ellis Studio,Giddings." Archie is not quite sure whether the Medlin's lived in Goreeor in Giddings. If Thee first met Laura Ann in Goree, it would havebeen a whirlwind courtship and marriage.
She, Thee Fariss, Isaac Medlin, Jim Medlin, Lewis Medlin, RebeccaMedlin, J.Allen Mulkey and his wife Josephine Medlin, and Andrew Jonesbought land in Oklahoma in 1893. Did spinstress Rebecca Medlin actuallybuy her own land ? Thee Fariss paid $15 to a man for some land.
Pioneers such as they had to live in dugouts at first, and for anextended period of time; this is just a hole in the ground. AubreyFariss has seen pictures of what seem to be caves in a river bank. Sodhouses would have to come later in the development of a ranch. A housewith wood in it was many years down the line.
Annie Fariss Ballard says that Aunt Laura visited in Giddings, whileAnnie was a little girl, which would be 1905 to 1915 roughly. Laura had"kind of reddish hair." Robetha says it was auburn.
Ira Milton (1895), Cata (1897), and Elmer Jack (1902) all visited inGiddings on one occasion.
Georgie Elsie Fariss says that Laura Ann visited in Giddings inDecember 1929, on the occasion of Ira's 70th Birthday and FamilyReunion.
Laura Ann died in the Community Hospital, Elk City, Oklahoma, and isburied in Evergreen Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma.
