  Eck and Dora's grand-daughter Verna Fariss Todd said on May 16, 1992that Dora had ancestry in the Netherlands, according to family legend.Verna, Thelma, and Georgie Elsie say that by legend Dora is arelative of Robert E. Lee. Dora was born in Virginia, and there areknown McGuires in Virginia. Robert E. Lee had no ancestors in theNetherlands.
  Three of her daughters (including Alice) had dark hair and eyes;three had blonde hair and blue eyes. The girls sang in church, and wereinvited to sing in other churches. Hollie had very fair skin andplatinum blonde hair.
  Family legend (WPSY 11-26-1993) says that she was very biased againstNegroes, much more than the average Southerner, and wouldn't even letNegro women hold her babies, which, if true, was most unusual for thatperiod in history. Amelia Jones Fariss was known to be very kind tothe Negroes, providing medical help to them in Giddings from her strawvalise.
