 Douglas H. Stockton is with his siblings in the 1850 census ofWashington County, where his mother is shown to be 48 years old.
 When he was 16 in 1852, he joined the Baptist Church and served asDeacon for about 50 years. He was a member of the Old Pecan GroveChurch, which later became the First Baptist Church of Bartlett.
 He was a Confederate soldier, and fought under Gen. Earl Van Doren.He assisted in the capture of Gen. Grant's supply train at HollySprings, Miss.
 The Stockton's moved to Bell County in 1870, and purchased 640 acresof the Moses Allen Headright near Indian Creek and west of the presenttown of Bartlett. This became their permanent homestead.
 When he first came to Bell County, he was the only Baptist within a10-mile radius of his home. He founded the Lone Star Sunday School,west of Bartlett, in 1906.
 He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years.
 His mother Emily Bumpas Stockton went to live with her daughter SarahElizabeth Stockton Clemmons near Salado. When Sarah and family moved toWaco, Emily went to live with Douglas Hayden Stockton in the IndianCreek community, which must be near Bartlett and 20 miles southeast ofSalado. Bartlett is about 20 miles north of Taylor.
  He and Mollie had a big farm near Bartlett, which is on theWilliamson-Bell county line.
  From "Story of Bell County TX," two volumes in the Giddings CityLibrary, page 659: "Mrs. Henry B. (Mary B.) Kelso, founder of the FirstPresbyterian Church in Bartlett, was a woman of fervent religious idealsand arranged a meeting in 1875 under the shade trees on Indian Creekabove the house of Hayden Stockton. Rev. Levi Tenney was in charge atthis meeting where the Nazareth Church was organized."
  Uncle Hayden and some other white men hanged 14 black men whom theythought had killed some family member.
  Mickey Bowers says that the mother Emily Bumpas Stockton is buried ina marked grave at Salado.
 Hayden and Mollie are buried in the Stockton Family Cemetery on theirown farm. Also buried here are their daughter Emily Priscilla Stocktonand her husband W. F. Fay Caruthers, who was a U. S. Commissioner inHouston for some federal agency.
 Sarah Elizabeth Stockton Clemmons, sister of this Hayden Stockton,is the mother of Mootie Clemmons Cherry, author of the Bumpas book.
  Douglas Hayden Stockton II is apparently called Hayden P. Stockton inthe 1900 Bell County soundex, and also is called B.H.Stockton of allthings:
