  Archie earlier had his place of death as Giles co TN, but James E.Stockton carries it as Lawrenceburg, Lawrence co TN.
  James Bumpas was a doctor. James and Gabriel Bumpas headed a colonyfrom South Carolina of 50 or more immigrants. They were the firstrecorded white settlers in Giles County, Tennessee. James was a Masonand a Methodist.

 "Dr. James Bumpas and Gabriel Bumpas headed a colony from SouthCarolina of fifty or more immigrants, who were the earlier settlers ofGiles County TN. These colonists had to remain in the neighborhood ofNashville a year or more on account of the failure of the Indians tocede the lands that the colonists were to occupy south and southwest ofthe modern town of Pulaski. This colony started from Nashville about1809 and had to cut the road from where Columbia now stands to wherePulaski now stands." There follows a detailed account of their hardwork and hardships.
