Note: 1808 - 1878 Earlier I had April 4, 1806 by mistake. April 10, 1808 is from JoKnox Marcia's transcription of her old Bible pages. Mickey Bowers has1808. From the Bible: "W. A. Knox died Friday evening at 7 o'clock June the28th Anno Domini 1878." Mickey Bowers says May 19, 1995 that this Knox clan lived in AmiteCounty MS, just above Hammond, LA before they moved on into Louisiana proper. Knox was a Captain in the Mississippi State Militia. He kept a diarybefore his marriage. Knox lost his wife and a number of slaves during an epidemic in 1858.We were told by someone (Mickey Bowers?) that this happened inLouisiana, but Jo Knox Marcia says that the family had migrated to Texasabout 1851 to 1853. A Knox bought land in Texas in 1853 in Neils Peterson's League fromElizabeth Coleman, who had bought it in 1836 from Neils Peterson. W. A. Knox was elected to (the school board?) in School District No.6 in the school district elections of June 3, 1854. History of LeeCounty TX, 1974, page 17. He is in the 1860 Census at Lexington, Burleson County, Texas. Heshows as born in S.C., and age 52 gives him a birthdate of 1808. Nowife in 1860; she died in 1858. William 19 born MS; Robert 13 born LA;Aloysia female is surely Elvira, age 11 born LA. Also W. H. Murrayage 60 born S.C. Also A. K. Dillard age 25 born N.C. shown asover-seer. He is in the 1870 Census at Lexington, Burleson County, Texas, bornS.C., age 62 gives birthdate 1808, with only William H. Murray, age 71,born S.C., gardener. He was promoted to Colonel on page 87 of The Bumpas Book, probably inaccordance with the popular custom to honor a successful business man.The exaggeration is usually seen in a man's obituary. We believe he, his wife Letha Ann, and his daughter Mary are buried inScott Cemetery in Old Dime Box.
