  When her mother was paralyzed by a stroke in 1915, her mother wasbeing treated in Galveston. Massage was prescribed. Nurse Edna Monroewas excellent at massage, and Edna performed this service. Helenintroduced the nurse to her first cousin John Bates Knox, and egged themon to date each other. But Edna was offered the position of NightSupervisor of Nurses at John Sealy Hospital in 1916, and she accepted.She made John Knox wait. They were married in October 1917.
  Helen lived in New York for many years, where she was the first womanto be employed by the Chase Manhattan Bank. She was a Vice President,and at retirement she was head of the Women's Department at the bank.
