Your name, and the names of many of your ancestors, are familiar to me. WHITFORD CEMETERY Saratoga Springs, New York Here is the URL for the Whitford Cemetery, which is posted on the Saratoga GenWeb page. If you have the proof, why not have Olive Leggett's name added to the list for Whitford Cemetery? I have photos of the gravestones of Andrew B., Mary E., and Delia and will send them to you by attached file, if you are interested. There is certainly room in that lot for more people. I also have a list, and some photos, of the folks buried at Ramsdill Cemetery, and there is room for more people in that cemetery too. So, you are saying that Maria Ramsdill & Benjamin Leggett are buried at Greenridge, not at the Ramsdill Cemetery? I can assure you that there is no stone for either Maria or Benjamin at either Greenridge or Ramsdill Cemetery, although it's not too late to place one..... I don't think that David's database is clear on which cemetery they are at, and I don't have any proof either. I plan to post the Ramsdill Cemetery, and would like to include the names of people in unmarked graves, if I can find the proof of same (obit, death certificate, etc.) The caretaker for Greenridge, Shauna Sutton, is typically overwhelmed with the day to day business at Greenridge. The records are a mess, from previous caretakers, who didn't record things correctly from day #1. My friend, Ruth Ann Messick, has been working on "who is where?" at Greenridge for at least ten years and she's not done. Ruth Ann just recently unearthed the Saratoga Springs burial permits at the City Historian's Office and is working on indexing them, primarily to help with the Greenridge project. Anyway, the records for Greenridge are "spotty" at best, and do not start when the burials started, except for sale of deeds, I believe. Cornelius Durkee's work is the best early record of Greenridge Cemetery, but of course he could not record an inscription if one did not exist. The work that's being done on the Saratoga cemeteries now, is mostly by volunteers who are associated with Heritage Hunters genealogy group. So, the good news is that in the future, information about Greenridge Cemetery will be available, I just don't know when..... it's coming. Just idle curiosity, do you live in the Saratoga area? Alice Zetterstrom Subj: Olive Marie Hurlburt Leggett Date: 7/1/2004 3:01:50 PM Eastern Standard Time From: Jcpeleg To: Azetter Hi, I have received a copy of the interchange of letters between yourself, David and Dick Leggett. David is right Olive Marie Hurlburt Leggett was my great grandmother, dau. of Willis Hurlburt and Eliza Barton. She was born 30 Jun 1844, town of Milton and died 12 Oct 1883 in Saratoga Spgs. She is buried in Whitford Cemetery in her father's plot. There is no stone for her. The plot is in the back of Whitford on the very west edge. Her husband William Isacc Leggett is buried in his father's, Benjamin Leggett, plot in Greenridge Cemetery. The stones in Benjamin's plot are for his daughter Mary E. Leggett, son Andrew B. who was 14 at his death, and Delia Howland who was the granddaughter of Maria Ramsdill Howland Leggett. Maria Ramsdill was married to Nicholas Howland before Benjamin Leggett. There were no stones for Benjamin or his wife Maria Ramsdill Howland Leggett nor William Isaac Leggett. The Leggett plot is in the east side of Greenridge not too far in from Lincoln Ave. I have tried to locate old burial records for Greendridge from the record custodians but with no luck. If there is any more info you might need I'll be happy to help if I can. The url to my site is below. Legget and Hurlburt etc are there.
