Augustus, Dr., b ca 1860s ii. Percy (Percival), born June 5, 1864, died February 14, 1928. He married Elsie Caron June 16, 1890. She was the daughter of Judge Caron, of Windsor, Ont. She died in 1915. They had one child. At the age of eighteen, his academic education being finished, young Ives entered the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and remained for nearly four years. In 1885 he visited Europe, spending six months traveling in Scotland, Germany and Italy; concluding his tour in Paris, where he remained for three years, studying at the Julian Academy under Boulanger, Lefebyre, Benjamin Constant and Corman. He returned to Detroit in 1889, and spent one year in teaching and painting landscapes and portraits. After another visit to Paris in 1890, he was appointed dean of the faculty of the Detroit Museum Art School, but resigned soon after and returned to his studies at the Julian Academy, Paris. He studied at the Beaux Arts in 1893 under Gerome, and in the same year exhibited at the Salon. In 1895 Mr. Ives again returned to Detroit and resumed his position at the Museum of Art, and painted portraits of Gov. Rich (1896), Judges McGrath (1897), Douglas (1897), Durand (1897), Green (1897), Knowlton (1897) and Profs. Meacham (1898) and Thompson (1900). He exhibited "Brittany Fishermen" (1893) at the Chicago exposition and in 1895 was commissioned to paint the portrait of Pres. Cleveland, and later a portrait of Russell A. Alger for the War department. His large portrait of Gen. Poe (1896) hangs in the Detroit Art Museum, (now Detroit Institute Of Arts), and among other portraits of distinguished Americans are: Ashley Pond (1895), Dr. McGraw (1896), Gov. Pingree (1899), and Judge Severens (1900). Mr. Ives has exhibited his works in New York, Philadelphia and elsewhere, but his commissions have kept him too busy to paint anything more than portraits. He was one of the organizers of the Society of Western Artists, and is an incorporator and trustee of the Detroit Museum of Art. Considered his most important works were: President Grover Cleveland (started by his father); Brittany Fisherman (world's Columbian Exposition); Mrs. Ives (Am. Painters' Exhbn., Detroit) Gen. Alger (U.S. War Dept.); quarter-centennial portrait (1921) of Prof. R.M. Wenley, U. of Mich: Treaty of Saginaw (Cass High Sch., Detroit). He studied in Paris and Rome under William Page. He was born on August 3, 1833, at or near Rochester, NY; and died on December 13, 1894. He was the son of Eardly Ives and Ann Wood. There is a room in the Detroit Institute of Arts named for him. Margaret died 28 May 1928 in Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan, 48009, at age 85. Died at the home of her son, Augustus Wright Ives. She married Lewis Thomas Ives 26 June 1860 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Lewis was born 4 August 1833 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. He was the son of Eardlay Ives who was born in England. Lewis died 13 December 1894 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, at age 61. Lewis was renowned portrait artist and had received the commission to paint a protrait of President Glover Cleveland. He died before he was able to do the work and his son Percival was awarded the commission. Lewis also painted a portrait of Dr. Valentine Seaman from a miniture. This portrait, now considered a treasure, is displayed in the board colnference room in Nes York City Hospital. He was also a lawyer. Augustus died --- in Alexandria, Virginia, at age unknown. He married Julia Claire Chandler 31 July 1901 in Massachusetts. Julia was born 25 August 1873 in New York. She was the daughter of Harvey Chandler Julia died --- in Alexandria, Virginia, at age unknown. Augustus married first Margaret Eugania Schnoor [1870-1897]. Margaret was the daughter of Maxmillian & Linda Shnoor of New Baltimore, Michigan. Augustus & Claire had children: Margaret [10 Apr. 1903- ], Chandler [10 Aug. 1905-28 Oct. 1920 drowned], twins: Louis Livingston & Clarence Chandler. Their daughter was Margaret who became a doctor. The family resided in Birmingham, Michigan & later in Alexandria, Virginia. Margaret never married. 104 vi. Valentine Ives [twin] was born in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan 1870. Valentine died 1917 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, at age 47. He married Madge Hart --- in ---. Madge was born --- in ---. Valentine & Madge had children: Janet [m. Donald Duncan] & Thomas. 105 vii. Lewis Ives [twin] was born in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan 1870. Lewis died --- in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, at age unknown. He was 18 mos. old.
