Note: oodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y., which Plot is immediately behind the William H. Leggett Plot (Lots 522 and 523, Section 9 Spring Hill Section, Magnolia Drive) near the Cemetery office at the Webster Avenue gate in the extreme northeast corner of the grounds. Insription on the gravestone of Maria Mullen who was a servant of Charles and Sarah (Allen), although buried next to the graves of Edith B. and Charles W. Palmer: MARIA M. MULLEN DIED AUG. 3, 1926 A FAITHFUL SERVANT FOR 66 YEARS ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This terrible misreading of the name by the indexer renders Charles D. Belden (who actually turns out to be Mrs. Charles D. Belden, as he died in 1912) virtually unfindable. Found only in a search for her cousin, Laura Lacey Leggett. She was living with her first cousin, the widow Mrs. Charles D. Belden (Sarah R. Allen, daughter of Catherine Maria (Leggett) Allen) and her son, William C. Belden, and servant Maria Mullen. Catherine Maria, her husband, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Belden are buried in the Allen plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, with Maria Mullen, "A faithful servant for 66 years." William Belden does not appear to be in the index at all, even under the creative rendering of his father's surname.
