Note: Sent: Fri 3/9/01 12:08 AM From: Kalamcc@aol.com To: David.Leggett@fns.usda.gov David, From the sounds of your note, you are going to try to bring the different lines of the Leggett family down to present - are we correct? That is quite an undertaking! You can try contacting: ... Mrs. Billie McPhee 4415 Allott Ave Apt. #2 Sherman Oaks, California 91423 1-818-783-1431 Billie is Kathy's aunt, she had no children, but knew of quite a few members of the family. ... Kathy & Larry ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I talked to the last survivor of the three daughters of Lucile Viola Leggett, Mrs. Billie McPhee (Wilhelmina Winifred Howell) from 2:30 to 3:30 on the afternoon of Friday, 16 March 2001. A pleasant lady, who said she went by Billie, not being truly enamored of her given name. She greatly misses her husband, George Fraser McPhee, who died in 1993. They never had any children. She could not remember much about the Leggetts, as they stand rather far back in her family tree. She had vague recollections of tales of the large New York estates of William H. Leggett, 1789-1863, the Long Island place owned by his son, Augustus, 1815-1885, before he came to Michigan. She knew they were quite well off and could do with some of that wealth today. Augustus`s son, William H. Leggett, 1840-1920, she said, "eventually had to work." One of his sons, John Wheeler Leggett, 1864-1939, her uncle, was "a millionaire twice over; retired at 40." He had two daughters, Wilhelmina, born 1896, who "married a professor at Vassar, first name of Guido." She could not recall his last name. They had an "adopted East Indian daughter." The other daughter, Annabel, 1895-1974, married Oreste Papalini, 1900-1975, and had a son named Rudy who was now 71 years old and has leukemia, and a daughter named Jackie, a couple of years older, who married a Mr. Cowl (sp?). Rudy has been married three times. He had a son by his first wife, and a son Darren and a daughter named Collin by his third wife. Collin is married. Billie gave me Rudy`s telephone number, beyond what the McCurdys gave me, and said he probably would be happy to talk to me about the family. I have yet to make contact, as these folks are rather far out of the Leggett line. I may yet call, if I have some extra time. DJL Browsing the SSDI, 15 Jan 2003. I see that Rudy Papalini died last June: RUDY PAPALINI 04 Feb 1930 15 Jun 2002 (V) 91387 (FO) 91331 (Pacoima, Los Angeles, CA) 573-38-6489 California
