 William J. "Hoppy" Leggett, age 82 of Ransomville, died Monday June 16, 2014 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a long illness.
 Hoppy was born November 2, 1931 on his family's farm in the Town of Lewiston, the son of the late Lawrence and Pearl (Pfeffer) Leggett. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy Reserves. In 1952 he was called to active duty and served until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was the recipient of the National Defense, the United Nations and the Korean Service (2 stars) Medals. Hoppy married Deanna L. (Schultz) Leggett on August 10, 1957. He retired from the Niagara County Water Department after 20 years of service. Previous to that, Hoppy at worked at various area farms and he had worked as a deliveryman for the former White House Dairy in Lewiston for 20 years.
 Hoppy was a 60 year member of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past President, Treasurer, and an Exempt Member. An avid fisherman, he spent 57 years fishing at Mud Creek in the 1000 Islands and was a member of the Niagara River Anglers Association.
 In addition to his wife, Deanna, he is survived by a daughter: Sherrie Leggett and a son, William (Jackie) Leggett both of Ransomville; a grandson, Adam (Marlise) Leggett and a granddaughter, Andrea Leggett; a brother in law, Hank Moshano of Star Lake, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert (Betty Lou) Leggett and a sister, June Moshano.
 Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday from 3 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 19, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. William Lowery of the Ransomville Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 239, Ransomville, NY 14131 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
