Note: Leggett, Frederick Age: 1 Year: 1930 Birthplace: Roll: T626_1372 Race: Page: 11B State: New Jersey ED: 95 County: Monmouth Image: 0592 Township: Ocean ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Leggett's Sand Bar 217 First Ave. Manasquan (Asbury Park), N. J. 732-223-3951 Leggett's (732-528-1544) pizza is their take out or kitchen number, same place. Sounds like this is the man. A telephone call to this establishment, 30 June 2003, reveals that a Fred Leggett owned the place, after inheriting it from his parents, and sold it to the present owners in the mid 1980s, retiring to Vero Beach/Port Saint Lucie area, wherever the Mets or Dodgers do spring training; Fred works at the stadium in some capacity. He had quadruple bypass surgery this spring. Better call him soon... Leggett, Fred A 282 Sussex Circle Jupiter, FL 33458 (561) 744-5819 He is 74, the right age...being just 1 in the 1930 Census. FRED A LEGGETT 15-AUG-28 33458 I called Fred Leggett on the telephone late in the afternoon of 30 June 2003, and found him to be a quite affable fellow, quite willing to talk about the family, but, perhaps due to his medical condition, unable to remember many details, such as birth and death dates, and ages of his parents and children. I was interested to learn that he is adopted, so he and his line are not blood cousins to the Leggett family (so my children are the only descendants of William H. Leggett to now bear the Leggett name). He said something about having two birth certificates presented to him upon some occasion; he thought his birth name might have been Wright. (This is too much of a coincidence, I didn't ask him, but I assume that his adoptive father's middle name was Wright.) I told him that the Wright name figures prominently in his ancestry. (DNA testing probably could verify if it is the same one.) His adoptive parents adopted no other chlildren, nor did they have any biological children. He has had no recent contact with and knows nothing of the Leggett family. He could remember that his father had a brother named Arthur, and he agreed with me that Arthur never married or had any children that he could recall. (We know this was the case as of the 1930 Census, when Arthur was 56 and single.) I asked him about his father's other brother, Charles P., and it did not ring a bell, which leads me to believe that my inability to find him in the 1930 Census may be due to his early death. (Charles is found in his parents' household in 1900 and 1910, aged 14 and 23 respectively, and apparently in the 1920 at 33 as a boarder, althought his parents' birth locations to not correspond to what we know to be the case.) His adoptive mother's maiden name was Lindwald, or something sounding like that name, as Fred could not recall the spelling. (1930 Census shows her as Lillian E., but have been unable to find her as Lillian Leggett in the SSDI.) Fred could not recall when she died, except it was after his father. Fred has been twice married, with both unions ending in divorce. By his first wife, Lynn Tatem, he had four children, Edward, Dianah, James and Robert, and they have 6 children between them. Edward is about 42 or 43, married, but has no children, just a big dog. Dianah is about 42, divorced, with a daughter Jasmin; they live in Florida. James is in his 30s. Fred hasn't seen James in 30 years and could not recall the names of his two boys. (They are estranged due to Fred's first divorce.) Robert is about 42, and has three children, Tasha, 7, Nikita 4, and Robert Jr., 2. By his second wife, Sheila Kelsey, he had a daughter, Caroline, who was killed in an auto accident at the age of 23. Fred's adoptive father, Edward, started Leggett's Sand Bar. Fred said it was still a hopping joint, and I agreed, as it does seem to be a reliable venue on the band circuit, as revealed in a google search using "Leggett" and "Asbury Park," which is how I located it, and later, Fred. Fred does not use the Internet or email. Fred works at Roger Dean Stadium where the Marlins and Cardinals do their spring training. He worked for the Expos for five years when they used the facility. We did not get into what his job entails, but he sounds like a baseball fan. He was amazed to know that the people back at Leggett's Sand Bar keep up with his health, as I already knew of his recent surgery after a heart attack. He says no family lore or artifacts have come his way. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: New message sent to you on Ancestry.com From: legg848, To: djleggett, 3 of 3 messages, view conversation Subject: RE: The Leggett Family....Fred A. Firstly, I'm wondering if you are the same Leggett fellow who was at Leggett's on Facebook. I immediately thought "wonder if he's a distant relative."...Haha. Anyway, I remember Fred's dad, we called him "Ned" telling me his background was Welch/Welsh.(?) He was thought of at times by people who did not know him as an "ornry cuss" but I found him to be delightful. Fred's birth name is Arthur Stewart and he was born in Spring Lake Hospital in 1928, adopted in '29. Sadly his mother did not tell him this until he was in his 40s, just prior to our marrying in '69. To say the least he was very upset. I look at pictures of Fred these days and of his father and am sure Ned was the biological father but again, that's just my opine. I'm no longer on Ancestry.com so please feel free to write me at legg848@bellsouth.net. Enjoy your time off and glad you weren't on that subway this morning in DC. I'm sort of a political junkie and post on many websites. Would warn you I'm a leftist liberal femnist, the bane of my very, very republican family in New Jersey. Looking forward to our next "talk." :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 16 March 2017, I find out that Fred has died: Name: Fredrick A.
