  ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
  Not contained in Early Settlers or LotLL are any descendants of Samuel. I have a death date written into my copy of Early Settlers in my own hand, apparently, 17 January 1773 (source? probably spurious). But Earl Palmer Leggett (1896-? ) lists his descendants to the 1930s, the widow of one of whom he was married to, however briefly (and bigamously). Although Earl does not have it exactly right, (and I am not sure I do either) U. S. Census schedules from the very specific area of Cohocton, Stueben Co. N. Y., and later in Michigan, in the main do support his genealogy of this branch of the family.
  Gen. 28.
 Samual Leggett, born at Cohocton, New York on February 10, 1744 and married on _________ to one named ___________. He died on _______________.
  (NOTE)
 Descendants of Samual Leggett will be mentioned farther on.
  CHILDREN OF SAMUEL LEGGETT
 AS MENTIONED ON PAGE 5 GENERATION 28
 HIS WIVES NAMES UNKNOWN
  Gen. 29.
 Allen Potter Leggett, born February 22, 1795, at Saratoga Springs, New York State. He ran away from home while still a young boy and enlisted in the army becoming a drummer boy and in the war of 1812. After the war he returned to his father's home and was married, (first time) to ____________ and by this wife he had (2) two children, a son and a daughter. He, Allen Potter, married (second time) to one named Mary Connor on January 28, 1853 and by this wife he had (3) three children. He died June 5, 1874.
  Gen. 29.
 Isaac Leggett, probably born in Saratoga Springs, New York or Cohocton, New York State between the years 1795 and 1800. The exact date is not known and there are no records now on file in either of these two places by the county clerk or registrar of Vital Statistics. Later he settled in the State of Michigan, just what date is not known, or if he married in New York State or after he moved to Michigan, but records show that he was married and had at least one son named Demin Leggett, now living to date (June 1931) at Grand Rapids, Michigan. This son is the last known to positively had the old family Bible with records enclosed.
  Gen. 29.
 John Leggett, born at Cohocton, New York about the year of 1802, possibly a little before or after and he married to one named ____________ on ______________. Mention of his children farther on.
  Gen. 29.
 Richard Leggett, probably born in Saratoga Springs, New York State, later moving to some part of the State of Ohio. While there are no records available at the present date January 1, 1925 giving his birth, marriage, or death, records show that he was married and had children. Some future date may reveal the name of his wife, his birth, marriage, and death date.

  Although these listings are of limited value, as pre-1850 censuses do not allow us to deduce family structure, thus ensuring we have the proper Samuel Leggett, it would appear that he lived a long life in Cohocton, through 1830 and 1840, perhaps moving there from Saratoga, where he may have been in 1800 and 1810. (Unclear what might have happened in 1820.) Others in the family had been known to live into their mid to late nineties in the mid 18th to mid 19th centuries. In fact, Samuel's older brother, Gabriel, lived from 1743 to 1838.

  I don't know if this is the right Samuel Leggett, as although he is in Stillwater for sure, I do not know if he ever was known as a merchant of New York City. Now his nephew Samuel 1782-1847, first president of the New York Gas Co. would have been old enough to participate in this transaction, but would he have been buying a farm in Stillwater? DJL
