Notes
a. Note:   H84K-KQ BIOGRAPHY: Henry was the youngest of the Mudge family at the time that they immigrated to South Australia in 1850 aboard the "AGINCOURT". He was educated at Wilunga by a Mr Bassett and moved with thefamily to Milang in 1856.
When he was 10 years old he obtained employment as a shepherd boy. He returned to Willunga for a year and then went to TOLARNO station, on the Darling River in New South Wales, with his father, William and worked as a stockrider. Later he worked in the saddlery trade with a Mr Lasscock in Wilunga.
He married Jane BASTIAN, whose parents were well known in the slate quarrying business of the area in 1872. He carried on his work in the saddlery trade, on his own account, before going to Oaklands,on the Yorke Peninsular for a few years.
In 1887, perceiving an opening for an energetic businessman in Streaky Bay, he established a general store there and sent travelling vans throughout the Gawler Ranges with very profitable results. Herepresented W.Thomas & Company, millers and wheat buyers of the district and was one of the first persons to ship grain from this far western port.
He conducted the carrying business until he subsequently handed it over to his two sons Ronald James and Harold.
He successfully conducted farming pursuits in the district and was one of the pioneering agriculturists.
He was appointed a Commissioner of the Peace in 1896 and was the first councillor appointed by the Government for Streaky Bay, in which capacity he served for ten years. He was one of the founders ofthe local Mechanics Institute. He retired to St .Peters, in Adelaide, in his latter years.
