a. Note:   H84H-MS BIOGRAPHY: Arrived in South Australia, with his parents, on the "Agincourt" on 1st February 1850.
 William assisted his father in the general store at Willunga for a time and then moved to the southeast of South Australia and then onto the gold fields in New South Wales.
 At 17 years of age he was in the Snowy River area and then returned to McLaren Vale, South Australia and, after being married, conducted a butcher's business in the town. He sold up the business and moved to Oaklands, South Australia where he had a General store, managed the Post & Registry Office and acted as a wheat buyer.
 In 1890 he purchased a farm at Lochiel, Victoria and this farm was later sold to Gustav Otto Pohlner (b.abt 1850). During this time he also acted as an agent for John Darling & Son, the well-known wheat buyers and commission agents in Victoria.
 About 1904 he retired to their home called "Hamley House" in Dimboola, Victoria retaining the wheat buyers and commission agencies until about four years before his death on June 23rd, 1916.
 He was a consistent supporter of the Church of England.
  MARRIAGE: William (b.1841) and Maria Laurey GOSS (b.1844) were married at St.Stephen's Church of England, Willunga, Sth Australia on April 13th, 1865.
