 Occupation in Devon was gutterman and his religion was Baptist (same REF)
 In 1837 William, (b.1816) , married Susannah Lear (b.1815) at 'Torwood Manor' Torquay, Devon.
 Susannah was the youngest daughter of ten children born in Daccombe, Devon, to John Lear (b . abt 1764 ) and Grace Chown (b.abt 1771).
 They sailed from Plymouth, Devon England aboard the "Agincourt" a three masted barque of 669 tons under master, Captain W. Cumberland, from London 7 October 1849, Plymouth 18 October 1849 arriving in Port Adelaide, Sth Australia on 1st February 1850. Records show 587 emigrants on board with five births and one death during the passage. Elizabeth's elder sister, Charlotte (b. about 1800) and her husband, Edward FORD (b. about 1790), presented them with a Bible at the commencement of their journey to Australia.They sailed with six of their children (the eldest daughter Sarah Grace having stayed in Devon, England).
 A son of Susanna's elder sister, Charlotte, named Edward FORD (b. about 1820), accompanied them on the voyage and died at Milang, South Australia on August 14th, 1852.
 William took up Block 4, Noarlunga (40 Km south of Adelaide) in 1853 to develop it as a farm . He then evidently moved to Milang (70km SE of Adelaide on Lake Alexandrina). Albert John MUDGE (b. Aug 1853), father of Thomas MUDGE (b. 1900), was born at Milang on 6th August 1853. His wife Susannah, died in 1859 and was buried at Milang.
 William moved back to Wilunga (45 Km south of Adelaide) where he operated a General Store and took up Section 228 of the Hundred of Wilunga. He subsequently sold this property to his nephew, John St.Jago MUDGE (b. 1839).
 William acted as a traveller for the firm, Messrs G & R Wills & Co and 1873 married Mrs Sarah Looney nee Strong in Adelaide and they moved to Tolarno station, on the Darling River in New South Wales, where William was appointed overseer.
 In the middle 1880's they returned to settle at Seaview, near McLaren Vale, and later on back to McLaren Vale. William died there from senile decay and a cerebral haemorrage on 15th May 1902 and was buried by undertaker Charles Brown, at Willunga cemetery.
 His residences in England were thought to have been Daccombe and Shiphay, in Devon.

 The Sydney Shipping Gazette (SSG) February 16th 1850 reports . . February 1, the Barque Agincourt 669 tons, Cumberland Master, from Gravesend 7 Oct. and Plymouth 10 Oct.[sic] —1st ship from England to S.A. with government passengers for 1850; Dr. Edward Gregory, Surgeon-Superintendent, with 257 emigrants; five births and one death in passage.
 Passenger in cabin: Rev. J. Watson, wife and child, Miss Small and servant, Mr William Main , wife and child, Mr. J. Tolson, Mr. L. Glyde and Dr. E. Gregory.
