Notes
a. Note:   reat old age in 1907.
He married Mary Smith b.1820 and came to Australia in 1850, at age 32, with wife Mary, aged 30, and children Mary Ann , aged 7 and Thomas, infant. It appears that their 2nd child, William b.abt 1844, died as a child in England. Susanna was born in 1850 after they disembarked and went to live at Port Albert, Gippsland.
Not a lot was known about his life, except he was committed for insanity. The documents state he was attended to by 2 surgeons and classified a dangerous lunatic. After he was collected by the police at Castlemaine, an order was sent to the Colonial Secretary for him to be admitted to Yarra Bend, but my research shows he did not go there but rather stayed at Melbourne Gaol until his release 3 months later in September 1855 when officially declared no longer insane and released.
