a. Note:   WILLIAMSBURG - Philip Frederick Holden, 81, formerly of Raliegh, N.C., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997. Mr. Holden retired as supervisor of communications and signals for CSX after 40 years of service. He was an avid golfer and a volunteer for many functions held at Kingsmill, where he resided. He was also a member of the Virginia Sheriff's Institute.
 He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn H. Holden; daughter, Barbara H., and her husband, Frank Denkins, of Williamsburg; son, Philip, and his wife, Beverly Holden, of Palm Coast, Fla.; four grandchildren, Todd, and his wife, Louise Denkins, Deborah Denkins, all of Williamsburg, and Lynn, and her husband, Mike Ruck, of Raleigh, N.C., and Jason Holden of Richmond; and three great-grandchildren, Madolyn, Madison and Jacob.
 Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy Galloway officiating. Interment will follow in the Williamsburg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home this evening.
