Notes
a. Note:   According to Charles Robert Holden, his grandfather came to the USA with the two children William Boyle and Catherine. Evidently the children were very little when they emigrated. They landed in Philadelphia. His grandfather died in Philadelphia, and the children were taken to Huntsville, Alabama by their uncle Robert Fenney. Robert Fenney was supposed to be the brother-in-law of Col. William Boyle's father and supposedly travelled with the Holdens from Ireland. A Robert Fenney did buy land in Huntsville in 1822.
Charles Holden did not mention his grandfather's name. A search of the records in Ancestry.com did turn up an interesting bit of information, however. On Jul 23, 1819, a William Holden arrived in Philadelphia. He came on the Schooner Despatch from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. There were a couple of reasons why the route Derry-St. John- Boston/Philadlephia/Baltimore was common at that time. The entry in the records does not say where William Holden came from, but there is one intriguing note. He was accompanied by 2 unnamed children. Certainly no proof, but maybe not a coincidence. As a further note, there was also a John Holden on the Despatch with the William Holden but no Robert Fenney. John's name appears directly below William's name in the list of passengers so it was likely that they were travelling together. Col Holden named his first son John Fenney Holden.
