a. Note:   Mathew Calvin and Eliza Ross have a joint tombstone at Green River Baptist Cemetery, Polk Co., NC. Mathew Calvin's death date is not on the stone. On the tombstone his birth date is given as June 17, 1865, but that is not right. The family Bible shows his birth date as Jun 5, 1861. His daugther-in-law, Patience Saunders Ross, wrote in her diary dated 1941 about going to her father-in-law's 80th birthday party on June 8th and leaving his house on June 9th (her own birthday which she specifically wrote was her 56th). I happen to have a picture of him cutting his birthday cake. There is also a picture of the whole family. There are 45 people in the picture.
  Unfortunately Mathew Calvin's obituary does not specifically state what day he died. From the wording of the obituary, it must have been after Wednesday 12 April 1944 and before Sunday 16 April 1944.
