 age 91, of Richmond, died Friday, August 9, 1991, widow of Lafayette M. Gunn, Sr. She was preceded in death by her son, Lafayette M. Gunn, Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Myrtle G. Fergusson, Audrey G. Garton, Mildred G. Boyer, all of Richmond; three sisters, Cornelia Leiss, Louise Van Houten, Kate Parsons; three brothers, Ralph, William and Wilber Lewis; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gunn was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Richmond Times Dispatch (VA) Sun. 8-11-1991
  Mary Carter Lewis was the second born of ten children of Ralph Lorenzo Lewis and Katie Bell Gunn. She was born at home, in 1900. She had brown hair, light complexion, and blue eyes. She was about 5'1" tall and about 120 pounds.
 She married Lafayette Monroe Gunn, her mother's double first cousin, the son of her uncle, James Freeman Gunn and her aunt, Virginia Alice Johnson.
 Lafayette and Mae lived in Richmond, Virginia and were active in Fairmount Methodist Church, in the Churchill Section of Richmond. Mae was a homemaker, and the mother of six children, four who survived infancy. In 1958, Mae moved into the home of her daughter Audrey, and son-in-law, Dewey Garton on Century Drive, in the West End section of Richmond.
 In her 80's she moved into the Hermitage, a retirement/nursing home in Richmond, Va. She enjoyed good health for most of her life, but during the last years she suffered the effects of old age. She is buried in Richmond's Riverview Cemetery beside her husband Lafayette, sons L. M. Gunn, Jr. and Roy Robbins Gunn
