Note: Virginia Ellis Gunn Hogge of Seaford, Va., formerly of Richmond died Wednesday, January 3, 1974. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Gunn Korman; mother, Mrs. Louise A. Wicker, both of Richmond; sister, Mrs. Earlene Hutchinson, of Hanover, Va.; niece, Mrs. Diane Christian Owen, of Williamsburg; also two grandchildren. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. Graveside services 10 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery. Richmond Times Dispatch (VA) Sat. 1-5-1974 Margaret Virginia Ellis was born in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated June 11, 1940, with her soon to be husband, Lafayette Monroe Gunn, Jr., from John Marshall High School. Known by their nicknames, Ginny and Mon, the highschool sweethearts were married January 226, 1942, just before Monroe went off to World War II. Monroe served in the Phillipine Islands as an aircraft mechanic. Virginia worked for State Planter's Bank and Trust as a teller. Several years after Monroe returned from the service, Virginia gave birth to their first child, Cheryl Gayle, born October 1, 1948. Virginia and Monroe had two children. Their son Craig Monroe was born may 5, 1950. Craig was born with multiple birth problems, and remained hospitalized for most of his short life. He died March 17, 1953 and was buried in Riverview Cemetery beside his uncle, Roy Robbins Gunn, who died at the age of 2 of pneumonia. Virginia was 5'4" inches tall, with natural curly black hair, and brown eyes and an olive complexion. She never weighed more than 100 pounds. Virginia and Monroe divorced and she remarried in the late 1960's. Her second husband was William Hogge, and he was about 25 years older than Virginia. She met William while hospitalized in Williamsburg, Virginia and married him while furloughed from the medical facility, rather than return. Virginia worked off and on as a bank tellerall her life. She had a wonderful personality and easily made friends. She died of heart failure in 1972 at the age of 49, complicated by liver disease. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery on Nine Mile Road beside her mother Louise, and her grandparents Benjamin and Minnie Spicer.
