  Craig Monroe was born with birth defects. After surgery to correct the problems, he suffered multiple complications, leaving him deaf and blind. He was hospitalized most of his brief life, and is buried in Riverview Cemetery. in Richmond, Va, beside his father, L. M. Gunn, Jr., uncle Roy Gunn, and his fraternal grandparents L. M. Gunn, Sr. and Mary Lewis.
