Note: GUNN Mary Catherine "Kitty" Atkinson Gunn, 81, of Highland Springs, passed away Friday, January 25, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percey B. Bates Jr. and Lafayette M. Gunn Jr. She is survived by her sons, Clifton LaRoy Bates and his wife, Kathy L. Bates and Raymond G. Bates; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Gunn Maxwell and her husband, Gary Maxwell; a sister, Jane A. O'Grady; a brother, Charles "Sonny" Atkinson and his wife, Cruz Atkinson; grandchildren, Raymond Scott Bates, Sharon B. Sale, Jeffrey B. Bates, Christopher L. Bates and Alisa J. Awad; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gunn was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Highland Springs. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Rosary being said at 7 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
