a. Note:   Two oil portraits exist of Henry James Hudd and Catherine (Pamplin) Hudd. They are in the possesion of Mary Tania (Hudd) Selden. They were painted by a Mr. Swan. Henry James and Catherine Hudd's daughter Elizabeth Jane (Bess) Hudd writes about him in a letter to her brother Harry Stanley Hudd, dated 3 April 1905: "You will be interested to hear that Mr. Swan has just been elected a Royal Academician, in the vacancy of a Mr. Brough who died during the year, -he has been an Associate for many years, I am glad he has got it, he had only a few votes more than Soloman J. Soloman (figure painter)"
