Note: N103 Email to Dudley Crane from Mercers’ School Archivist: Your Father, Robert Kenneth Crane entered Mercers’ School, in September 1914 and left in the Summer of 1917. Your brother, Robert Ewart Crane entered the School in September 1937, to Form 1 (preparatory) and you followed the same course, exactly a year later. You were all in Whittington House; it was normal for family members to retain the same house allegiance. Your father was recorded as an incorporated accountant, living at 55, Park Avenue, Bromley, Kent. I have record of Robert’s accountancy exams and the fact that you both moved on with the outbreak of war to Bickley Hall, and then to Cranbrook. There is a note that Robert entered the Royal Army Education Corps, in which he served from March 1947 to April 1949, before taking up a career in accountancy.
