a. Note:   t the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. G. Kays, Sunday, December 22, left many friends that will mourn his passing. He was born near Knoxville, Tenn., on November 5, 1837, and his parents moved to Illinois when he was a small lad. In 1857, when but 20 years of age, Mr. Ramsey joined that band of pioneers, who, with ox teams, braved the perils of the plains, in their search for the "Golden West." With him came two cousins, Andrew and Daniel Inman, who, like their kinsman, became influential citizens in the new country. Mr. Ramsey settled in Ramon valley, Contra Costa county, and there with his estimable wife, who was Miss Isabella Nicholson of Danville, he founded a home and become the owner of a ranch of many acres. In the year 1888 he moved his family to Selma, Fresno county, and there resided until a year ago, when he came to San Jose to spend his declingin years, where he might enjoy the companionship of his daughter. Mr. Ramsey was a man of strong character, one who loved his family and was true to his friends For nearly 60 years he was a consistent member of the Christian church, delighting in affirming his faith by good example and generous deed. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs Ramsey, Mrs C E Randall and Mrs W G Kays of this city; Mrs. L Lawrence of Visalia, Mrs S. F. Sutterfield of Oakland and George W Ramsey of Fresno The funeral was held yesterday with services conducted at thee home of Mrs Kays, 407 North Fourth street, beginning at 10 a m, the Rev. George W Brewster officiating Messrs G P Wells, Noah Spencer, George D Smith, E H Wemple, F. A.
