Ina Marie Lewis Hewes died Nov. 29, 2000, at Willow Wood Care Center, Salt Lake City, UT. She was 78 years of age. Ina was born Dec. 6, 1921 to James B. Lewis and Edith Clare Crawford Lewis. She was born at home, which was an old farm house on the SW corner of Redwood Road and Indiana Ave., in Salt Lake City. The old house was home at one time or another to Ina and her 12 siblings, many of whom provided loving support right up to her last day. In her younger years she was an active member of Burlington Baptist Church. Her faith and abiding love of Jesus Christ led her to a lifetime of commitment and a serving presence within the congregation. At Gilead Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and youth leader. She represented the church women on state boards, and served a term as state president of the American Baptist Women. Most recently, she was a member of First Baptist Church. Ina married Bert H. Hewes, Sept. 4, 1942, in Salt Lake City. They had three sons, whom Ina devoted herself to raising. She proved herself an admirable wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and business associate in Bert's business. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers Rual D. Lewis, William B. Lewis, Willard Lewis, James E. Lewis, Robert C. Lewis, and Harry C. Brown; sister, Reva Lewis Vanscoy; sister-in-law Dorothy Lewis; brothers-in-law Ray Phibbs, and J.W. Richardson.
